Improving Manager and Organization Performance
The Performance Triangle

Input Assumptions

These are much like the "Hygiene Factors" described by management theorist Frederick Herzberg. Managers and employees, as a rule, expect as a minimum that:

  • ...their workplace is secure,
  • ...they have the ability to work/operate safely,
  • ...they will have appropriate facilities, including decent offices (when required), emptied trash receptacles, and clean bathrooms (a relative term, I know!),
  • ...they will have standard benefits and compensation as generally provided at other similar companies or for generally the same work.

No surprises here.

These factors are, as defined by Herzberg, merely "hygiene factors"; their presence does nothing to motivate anyone working there, but their absence can be an extreme de-motivator. They are are critical point to evaluate prior to launching any productivity effort.
